Do I need to do any training to work with radiation?

If you work with ionising radiation – x-rays, scanners or radioactive isotopes, you are required to have ‘adequate and appropriate’ training. As an employer, you must ensure that this training is provided and that a suitable number of RPSs are appointed to provide adequate continuity of cover.

IRR17 states that refresher training should be scheduled at regular intervals to maintain competence levels. Employers should determine the frequency of training and this should be between periods of 3 but not exceeding 5 years.
